JOB TITLE: Food Service Asst. Manager
DEPARTMENT: Food Services
REPORTS TO: Food & Volunteer Services Director
STATUS: FT Non-Exempt

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the oversight of the Food & Volunteer Services Director, prepare and serve meals and participate in safe kitchen operations.  Work alongside of staff, clients and volunteers in planning, preparing, and serving meals within assigned shift (breakfast, lunch, dinner) at a professional level and to offer gracious hospitality. Utilize safe food handling practices and standards in accordance with applicable health codes and LRM standards.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and cook shift-appropriate meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner). Make prep lists and execute prep for the next meal.
  • Work alongside clients and volunteers assigned to kitchen.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen facilities.
    • Clean and refill condiment bins weekly
    • Clean refrigerator doors weekly
    • Participate in monthly cleaning days
  • Properly use, clean and store equipment. Report any issues to Manager.
  • Put away orders and donations; insure proper food handling and storage.
  • Understand the system of assessing and storing foods in compliance with Serve Safe and LRM standards:
    • Which foods are safe to eat
    • Which foods go into refrigerator and freezer
    • Which foods go into food storage closet
    • Which foods go out to other ministries
    • Which foods go to the farm
  • Understand the system of menus and assist with compilation, menu planning, and grocery shopping.
  • Work additional hours during the busy fall season and in the absence of Food & Volunteer Services Manager.
  • Observe established health and safety standards and procedures, including those of County Health Department, USDA and OSHA.
  • Take and report meal counts daily.
  • Supervise Sunday Supper Meal as requested.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Additional duties as requested.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christian, able and willing to share the gospel of Christ through words and actions
  • Compassionate towards homeless, addicted, mentally ill and poor.
  • Professional, courteous, and efficient.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, preparation, cooking terms, and techniques
  • Able to cook tasteful meals and follow instructions
  • Good eye-hand motor skills: precise, careful, and safety conscious
  • Computer literate, versed in internet web searching, email communications
  • Good math skills as applicable to cooking
  • Interpersonal skills, able to clearly communicate verbally and promote teamwork
  • Able and willing to work with diverse groups of people, treating all with dignity and respect
  • A knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment would be beneficial.
  • Possess an unrestricted valid Pennsylvania State Driver’s license with a motor vehicle record acceptable to LRM’s insurance carrier.

    The Food Services Coordinator is required to perform all of the above on an on-going and rotational basis.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year previous cooking experience preferred
  • Must be Serve Safe certified, able to attain within 60 days of hire.
  • Additional coursework in food services preferred
